As I walked past his shoulder the man outside said “he has spent years in Assad’s prisons, he was once part of the opposition, don’t worry he’s used to this”

He was covered in Debris from the attack that destroyed a number of buildings outside but luckily he was alive.

I stood before him now and he put his hand on my left arm, “why are you taking these pictures son?”

“I want the world to see this” I replied trying to show him a sign of my confidence that I could make a difference, he laughed an honest laugh and said

“make sure the right people see it my son, those who hate us for who we are will only harm us even more” when I took this shot his hand was still on my arm.
